Senior Prom

I can't believe my son is graduating this year. His senior prom is tonight. I may be biased, but I think he looks incredibly handsome. :) And his date is beautiful. My, how the years have flown by! I really can't believe that my oldest "baby" is going to graduate in less than two months.

One Year Ago

One year ago today....referral day. I was sitting on the couch cuddling and reading to my children...we were studying ancient Egypt and reading about mummies and King Tut in our homeschooling. Just another day, but then the phone rang...it was Holt International--our adoption agency. I wasn't prepared to hear the words that were spoken...it was a shock and a wonderful surprise. We had been matched with a little girl who had recently turned one....she had a vision problem....would we be interested in looking at her file? Oh, would we ever! A few minutes later, thanks to the wonderful invention called the internet, I was looking at my daughter for the first time. I immediately fell in love. Joyous day! Happy Referral Anniversary, my precious little one. (Picture 1: referral pictures, Picture 2: one year after referral)

Five in a Row Unit: Owl Moon

We learned so much about owls, trees, and nature. We read several books and watched the DVD "My Side of the Mountain." We made owl cupcakes. We drew pictures of owls and trees. We've also been watching the live webcam broadcast of an owl sitting on her eggs. They are supposed to hatch tomorrow. Here's the link to the webcam: http://www.sportsmansparadiseonline.com/Live_Owl_Nest_Box_Cam.html We finished the unit by celebrating with a special dinner: chicken chili, corn muffins, and root beer floats for dessert. Another great learning experience with Five in a Row!

Happy Birthday

Our little one celebrated her second birthday this weekend--her first with us. We are blessed beyond measure to have such a precious gift in our family. Our hearts rejoice, yet also ache for her birthmother during this time. Our prayer is that she knows her little one is safe, loved, and cared for. We thank her for giving life to this precious child. Happy Birthday, little one!

She had a butterfly theme party. She received lots of nice gifts, plus some cash--time to go shopping! We gave her the swingset you see see pictured. Looking forward to lots of happy times in our backyard. :)

Self-Care That's Not So Fun

As promised in my previous post, I am now going to talk about self-care that's not so much fun. This kind of self-care involves thin...
