Homeschooling: Week of Sept. 23-26, 2013

We had a great, but busy, week. We did "official" schoolwork only on Mon.-Thurs. this week, since we took a "big" field trip on Friday-see previous post. We are enjoying the arrival of fall, although most days are still a little too hot for my liking. I am anxious for that first real blast of cold air! We did get in some nice nature walks, both in the morning and in the evening. Those are some of my favorite times!
Doodles completed her study of ancient Greece this week. Bug worked on several different topics. Baby Girl continued learning and mastering her set of skills for this month, along with joining us for nature walks. Here's a snapshot of our lives this past week:

Evening nature walk

Welcome, fall!

What a sunset!

Baby Girl enjoyed walking at night.

Our morning nature walk: lots of caterpillars' nests in the trees

Fire ant bed

The leaves are changing color and starting to fall!

Big fire ant bed

Weed growing through the concrete by the street

"Prickly" things off a tree-not sure what kind

We saw lots of yellow butterflies in this area. Then we noticed a large nest with lots of yellow jackets, so we quickly backed away!

More mushrooms

Another mushroom

Spider and web it built on our bird feeder

Bug shares his phone with Baby Girl

Great book that Bug and I are reading as he studies different climates.

Doodles used this book to learn about animals this week. I created worksheets for her.

Bug's nature quest notes

Google search of desert honey pot ants

Google search of kit foxes

Google search of kangaroo rats

Learning about how different mammals care for their young

Bug and I use the internet for his unit study topics

Artist study for this week

Love the nature walk pics - nature just seems to come alive here in the fall (we're in Canada).

Looks like a good week!
