Homeschooling and Life: April 29-May 5, 2013

We had another good week as far as school goes, but the weather was very, very rainy. There was only one day (I think) that it didn't rain this past week. But the weekend has been gorgeous! Both yesterday and today have been sunny & beautiful & unseasonably cool, which is my favorite kind of weather! We truly appreciate the sun when it's been gone for a while - kind of an analogy for life, too, I guess. The hard times really help us to appreciate the good. We did just that today by spending time outside this morning. I enjoyed a cup of coffee on my back patio, while chatting with Bug and watching Doodles swing while listening to music on her headphones. Then hubby grilled lunch outside for us, and Baby Girl had a chance to spend some time outside after church today. We are so thankful for this nice weather! As I stated, though, in spite of the rain, we had a nice school week. Here are the highlights:

Treat of the Week

Two books that Doodles is currently reading

Science experiment by Doodles to investigate the role of air in the growth of seedlings

Bug read about owls this week in his unit study about Narnia

Worksheet about owls completed by Bug

Bug also read about how to treat snake bites

We discovered this story about a hunter who saved his own life when he was bitten by a rattlesnake

Bug also learned about marshes

Bug read about birds found in marshlands, such as ducks...

snipes...

bitterns....

and herons.

Bug chose to illustrate a heron...

and a duck.

Bug used a cereal box to learn about rectangular solids

Bug used these geometric solid manipulatives in his math studies this week

Baby Girl had lots of fun at lunch!

Another crash on the couch for Baby Girl
